Musicians in Rexburg have a new opportunity to share their talents with the community.
Chesbro Music has begun hosting open mic nights every Friday evening starting at 7 pm. Managers Michael Bates and Steven Prince are excited about the event and said it is fun for the whole family.
"We wanted to have a way to give musicians an opportunity to come in and play, sing, whatever they want to do in a family-friendly environment," said Bates.
Bates and Prince said the community is filled with musicians and having an open mic night will give more people a chance to play in front of others.
"We've sold a lot of instruments to people in the community and a lot of them don't really have anywhere to go to play in front of anybody," said Bates. "That's one of the reasons we wanted to do it, to give people the opportunity to do that."
Prince said with so many BYU-Idaho, high school, middle school and elementary school students involved in music, open mic night is a great chance for anyone of any age to play.
"There are so many music students in this community," said Prince. "We want them to have an opportunity to unlock the music that's inside of them."
Prince also said it is a great place to find friends and people with similar interests.
"It helps to meet other musicians, I mean if you want to form a group or if you want someone to collaborate with you...this is the kind of place that you meet them," said Prince.
Chesbro Music's open mic night is free to attend and perform at. There is also a donation basket where the proceeds help Chesbro Music as well as music scholarships and local music programs.
