Los Angeles-centered bass player Brian Bromberg will headline a jazz concert July 18, with the Brigham Young University-Idaho Jazz Lab Band. Together, they will premier three arrangements that will be featured on Bromberg's upcoming album.

Bromberg has become one of the most well respected virtuoso players in jazz, performing on both acoustic and electric bass in a variety of styles. The multi-talented musician has received Grammy nominations for his work as a producer, composer and arranger.

"It's a very accessible concert," said Ryan Nielsen, Department of Music faculty. "We will be doing everything from traditional big band swing in the style of Count Basie to ‘70s funk music."

Bromberg was instrumental in starting the BYU-Idaho Jazz Festival by performing and teaching at the event in its inaugural year in 1999. He returns to campus on the 10-year anniversary of his first appearance in Rexburg.

The concert is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Oscar A. Kirkham Auditorium. Tickets are $6 for the general public and $3 for BYU-Idaho students. Tickets are available at the Spencer W. Kimball Ticket Office, by calling 496-2230, or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
